This project involved the alteration and full refurbishment of the existing commercial kitchen at the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) in Southampton.
The works required the coordinated delivery of general building works alongside significant mechanical and electrical (M&E) upgrades to meet modern operational, safety, and hygiene standards.
General Building Works
- Supply of all labour, plant, and materials to complete general builders works in connection with the kitchen refurbishment.
- Refurbishment of all internal finishes to suit the new layout and upgraded systems.
Mechanical Services
- Installation of new canopy ventilation and condense canopy systems.
- Integration of a fire suppression system within the kitchen canopy.
- Installation of a new Air Handling Unit (AHU) for kitchen make-up air supply, with associated ductwork.
- Modifications to existing ductwork layouts and upgrading fire ratings of ductwork.
- Removal of fire dampers from kitchen extract ductwork.
- Alterations to domestic hot and cold-water pipework to remove dead legs.
- Low Temperature Hot Water (LTHW) pipework connections.
- Chilled Water (CHW) system pipework connections.
- Alterations to existing drainage systems to suit the new kitchen layout.
Electrical Services
- Installation of new small power and lighting systems.
- Installation of containment systems for power, data, and controls.
- Provision of power supplies for all new mechanical plant.
- Upgrades to distribution boards to accommodate new loads.
- Integration of systems into the existing Building Management System (BMS).
- Installation of new fire alarm components to protect the refurbished area.
- Installation of new data services to support modern kitchen equipment and systems.
